Recovering!

No, I didn't fall off a mountain cliff! But I did spend a few days in the hospital recently.

I am an experienced outdoorsman and have led numerous trips to the Rocky Mountains, the BWCA, St. Croix River, the Appalachian Trail and many of our state parks and forests.

Yup, Life Throws Lemons Sometimes

I thought it might be good to let people know that, despite my incredible physical fitness and capabilities (ok, I might be stretching that just a bit), I have found myself with a fairly major health issue.

I have prostate cancer. I found out a couple of months ago and was informed over time that it is advanced and somewhat aggressive. This picture of me is the day after getting home from the hospital after one of the top prostate surgeons in our state removed my prostate and a few other nodes, modules and tissues. I'm pretty sure they didn't take out any other major organs tho! It's not the most attractive picture of me but I wasn't in charge of the camera. Sorry!

The overall prognosis is pretty decent even though the cancer is most likely incurable. I should have many, many years of adventuring left! It will slow me down for the next few months as I have to get my strength back and work on some side effects of the surgery but when our season starts next Spring, I will be ready! And, I should note, even if this does slow me down a bit for awhile, we have many other amazing guides so we won't be slowing down on providing awesome adventures!

Recovery from this major surgery will be a challenge but I am doing well and know that I will be back on my feet and running (well, hiking, at least) in a few weeks.

If you really feel sorry for me, you can certainly donate to our non-profit efforts here at Wild Hearts Adventures right here on our website! I'm not above a little pity! Of course, I also love coffee, chocolate and beef jerky!
