Camping at State Park
June 14-16, 2024

Spend a weekend camping along the St. Croix River. Our activities will include canoeing, swimming, fishing, hiking, cooking, and eating delicious meals.

We plan to leave the Twin Cities area on Friday at around Noon and return approximately 4pm on Sunday. Transportation is provided from the Twin Cities to William O'Brien State Park and back. The drive is about 75 minutes.

Wild Hearts will provide all of the equipment, food and guides.

You are responsible for:

  • Your clothing
  • Personal care items
  • Fishing license and tackle if you desire to fish (no license required if fishing from shore within Park boundaries).
  • Getting to pick-up location
  • Adventurous attitude

William O'Brien State Park offers a great camping experience:

  • 12 miles of hiking trails that range from easy to difficult and pass through wooded areas, wetlands, and restored oak savanna areas.
  • A swimming beach at Lake Alice, aspring-fed lake within the park.
  • Fishing from the pier at Lake Alice or from the banks of the St. Croix River.

Your guides will prepare meals and you will be tasked with set up and clean up. The food will be plentiful and delicious! We also provide snacks for your enjoyment throughout the day. For water, the park has easily accessible drinking water.

During the mornings and in the evenings after sundown we will have a campfire for warmth, ambience, and conversations.

Please contact us if you have any questions or concerns. Participation packets will be available approximately two weeks prior to the trip. We may also schedule a group Zoom meeting with participants prior to the trip.

Documents

Important stuff will show up here when needed and when available! Check back often if you are going on an adventure with us because there could be some really, super-important stuff here. No, really, it could be the kind of stuff that decides whether you have a great trip or not like... oh, a list of things to pack, for example. That could be crucial. Actually, there's no "could" in that... it's definitely crucial.

Meet Your Guides

Ken Johnson

Lead Guide

As a 6-year old growing up on the outskirts of Duluth, my summer days were spent running through the woods and fields with my neighbor buddies. At age 11 I got involved in Boy Scouts, earned the Eagle Scout award at 14 and at age 16 I began spending my summers on staff at a Boy Scout camp in northern Minnesota. I spent six summers at the camp; my final year as Program Director. Over the years I have led numerous groups on canoe trips in the BWCA, backpack trips in the Rocky Mountains, and mission trips to Central America.
